Reliable connectivity designed around a historic building, its users and its budget.
Overview
The London Oratory needed to replace an ageing wireless network and internet connection that were no longer meeting its requirements.
Simpli-Fi designed and delivered an integrated connectivity upgrade, combining Ruckus WiFi 6, Cisco switching and a dedicated fibre leased line with a backup connection. The solution was tailored to the building’s fabric, the needs of its users and the available budget, with ongoing managed support following installation.
The Challenge: Modern Connectivity Within an Existing Building
The existing WiFi system had been in place for more than eight years. Wireless speeds were limited to up to 54Mbps, while the internet connection provided just 10Mbps.
The requirement extended beyond replacing wireless access points. The London Oratory needed an improved connection to the internet, an upgraded network to support the WiFi and a solution suited to the physical characteristics of the building.
It also needed a carefully managed transition from the old system and accessible technical support once the new network was in place.
Our Solution
Ruckus WiFi 6
Simpli-Fi installed a new Ruckus WiFi 6 solution throughout the building, replacing the legacy wireless network with modern enterprise WiFi.
The design took account of user requirements and the building’s fabric, ensuring the solution was shaped around the environment it needed to serve.
Cisco Gigabit PoE Switching
Cisco gigabit Power over Ethernet (PoE) switching provided the wired network supporting the new WiFi deployment. This combined gigabit connectivity with power delivery for compatible access points through the network cabling.
Dedicated Fibre Connectivity With Backup
A primary fibre leased line provided a 100Mbps internet service on a 1Gbps bearer, replacing the previous 10Mbps connection.
A separate VDSL connection provided failover if the primary fibre connection became unavailable, adding resilience to the overall solution.
Managed Support Seven Days a Week
The installation was supported by a three-year fully managed support contract, offering assistance seven days a week.
This gave The London Oratory an ongoing point of contact for specialist network support beyond the initial deployment.
The Outcome: An Upgraded Network With Ongoing Support
The project brought the wireless network, switching and internet connectivity together in one coordinated upgrade, providing:
- Ruckus WiFi 6 throughout the building.
- Cisco gigabit PoE switching to support the wireless infrastructure.
- A 100Mbps primary internet service, compared with the previous 10Mbps connection.
- VDSL backup for failover if the primary fibre line became unavailable.
- A solution designed around the building, its users and its budget.
- A three-year managed support agreement with support available seven days a week.
The client highlighted the smooth transition from the previous system and the reassurance provided by Simpli-Fi’s ongoing customer support.

FAQ’s
What connectivity solution did Simpli-Fi install at The London Oratory?
Simpli-Fi installed Ruckus WiFi 6 throughout the building, supported by Cisco gigabit PoE switching. The project also included a primary fibre leased line, VDSL backup and a three-year managed support contract.
How was the internet connection upgraded?
The previous 10Mbps internet connection was replaced with a 100Mbps fibre leased line on a 1Gbps bearer. The bearer describes the underlying connection capacity; the installed internet service was 100Mbps.
How does the backup connection improve resilience?
A separate VDSL connection provides failover if the primary fibre leased line becomes unavailable. Its role is to maintain an alternative route to the internet; it does not imply identical performance to the primary connection.
Was ongoing network support included?
Yes. The project included a three-year fully managed support contract offering support seven days a week.
