Having already solved the problem of in-building cellular connectivity for the University of Birmingham campus hotel, the team was challenged to address the mobile signal challenges at the University of Birmingham’s Computer Centre.

Solution

Simpli-Fi collaborated with the University of Birmingham to deploy the Cel-Fi Quatra 4000e solution, tailored to overcome the unique challenges posed by the Computer Centre’s construction. By leveraging an alternative donor source and strategic placement of Coverage Units, Simpli-Fi devised an effective strategy to penetrate the building’s thick walls and provide comprehensive mobile signal coverage.

Results

Following the implementation of Cel-Fi Quatra, the Computer Centre witnessed a remarkable transformation in mobile connectivity. Staff and visitors now enjoy seamless access to all mobile networks indoors, enhancing productivity and communication within the facility. This solution not only addresses immediate connectivity challenges but also due to the modular design of the Cel-Fi Quatra 4000e, lays the groundwork for future expansion, ensuring a reliable and robust mobile infrastructure for the University of Birmingham’s technology-centric environment.

Challenges

The University of Birmingham’s Computer Center, situated within the Edgbaston campus, faced a unique challenge due to its location in a low-lying area and its two-level, thick-walled structure resembling a Faraday cage, which severely limited mobile signal coverage.
