Serco is a FTSE 250 company managing over 500 contracts worldwide, employing over 60,000 people across five sectors: Defence, Justice & Immigration, Transport, Health and Citizen Services.
When Serco experienced a site-wide issue with their WiFi and core network at one of their larger UK sites, they needed a fast, secure, temporary solution whilst the network was rebuilt.
Simpli-Fi was commissioned to design and deploy a large-scale temporary WiFi network across the vast site in Swindon with just 24 hours notice.
Our Solution
The team installed 200 Ruckus High-Density wireless access points, 55 POE switches, 3.5km of fibre backbone cabling, and 200 Cat 5e cables with multiple cabinet locations across a 750,000 square metre site across multiple buildings.
Challenges
We have worked on many large projects over the years, but never have we had to deliver something of that size, 750,000 square metres, with just 24 hours notice. From the site survey on Wednesday, the network was live the following Monday afternoon, providing a fully managed WiFi network to support approximately 2,500 users across the site.
