Overview
Simpli-Fi was selected by Wingate Electrical PLC to design and deploy a robust temporary WiFi solution for the construction phase of 22 Bishopsgate, one of London’s most significant high-rise developments. Standing at 278 metres tall with 62 storeys, 22 Bishopsgate is a state-of-the-art commercial skyscraper providing flexible workspace for a diverse range of businesses.
During the build phase, site-wide connectivity was essential—not only for construction operations but also for digital project management tools, health and safety systems, and secure site communications. Simpli-Fi was engaged to deliver a high-performance, scalable WiFi network capable of supporting all these functions throughout the complex and evolving construction environment.
Challenges
Deploying WiFi infrastructure on a live construction site of this scale presented several technical and logistical challenges:

Large-scale phased build: With 62 floors under phased construction, the network had to be rolled out incrementally without disrupting ongoing work.

Physical obstructions and interference: Steel structures, hoardings, and constantly shifting layouts created a challenging RF environment.

Temporary but resilient: The solution needed to be temporary but built to enterprise-grade standards to ensure stability and uptime.

Multiple stakeholders and tools: The WiFi had to support critical software (such as cloud-based snagging tools), voice-over-WiFi communication, and safety systems like Cranesafe.
Our Solution
Simpli-Fi worked closely with Wingate Electrical’s onsite teams to design and deploy a network that would adapt to the demands of a live, high-rise construction project. Our approach included:
1. Site Survey and RF Design
We began with a comprehensive RF site survey, assessing the unique signal propagation and interference characteristics of the environment. This enabled us to validate the proposed WiFi design and adapt coverage plans for phased construction rollouts.
2. Scalable WiFi Infrastructure
A total of 128 Ruckus AC Access Points were deployed strategically throughout the site. These were installed in phases to align with the construction schedule and ensure seamless expansion as new floors and areas became active. Ruckus APs were selected for their superior performance in high-density, interference-prone environments.
3. High-Speed Wired Backbone
A fibre optic backbone was installed to support high-speed data transmission between key network nodes. We supplemented this with Cat6 structured cabling to connect access points and edge devices across all active site zones.
4. Support for Construction-Specific Applications
The network was optimised to support key tools and systems, including:

Cloud-based snagging software used by contractors and project managers

Network-based calling systems enabling reliable communication across all floors

Cranesafe system requiring consistent, uninterrupted connectivity for operational safety
